Spodi iOS 2.7–2.9.1: set videos, volume multipliers, and Power

Versions 2.7 to 2.9.1 have shipped since our last recap. The main ones: set videos with frame-by-frame playback in Premium, volume counting for per-side exercises, and a Power category with a new exercise type.

Spodi iOS 2.7–2.9.1: set videos, volume multipliers, and Power

Last time we stopped at 2.6. Versions 2.7 to 2.9.1 have shipped since. Here's what changed.

🎥 Set videos (2.7, Premium)

Set videos are a Premium feature.

The set menu now has “Attach video”: pick a clip from your library and everything else happens on its own. Trimming is optional — required only for clips longer than two minutes.

  • It runs in the background. The upload uses a background session and continues after you leave the app. Compression gets about half a minute of background time from the system; if it doesn't finish, it safely resumes from the same source when you come back.
  • Offline at the gym. Your clip plays right after compression — before it ever reaches the cloud. Once you're back online, it uploads itself.
  • Frame-by-frame player. Scrub one frame at a time in both directions: handy for finding exactly where form broke down.
  • Download and share. Save to Photos or send it through the share menu — with the Spodi mark in the corner (inside the app the player stays clean). Export keeps working after Premium ends: access to your own recordings doesn't depend on a subscription.
  • Settings → Data & Storage. Space used, auto-deletion of unwatched clips, a cache ceiling, and a “Cellular uploads” toggle.

⚖️ Volume multipliers (2.9)

How do you count lunges when you log 12 reps per leg? Or a dumbbell press with an implement in each hand?

When you create or edit your own exercise, there is now a “Volume counting” block with two switches: ×2 reps — when you count them per side, and ×2 weight — when there's an implement in each hand. A live example recalculates right underneath.

  • Only what makes sense is shown: types without reps have no block at all, and the assisted machine offers rep doubling only — there the weight is assistance, not load.
  • Exercises from the shared catalog come pre-marked — we went through about 200 of them by hand. After the markup, total tonnage across the database rose by 11%.
  • Counting works in the app and on the web: over the same period the numbers match.

💥 Power and a new exercise type (2.9.1)

In a box jump what matters is the height of the box, not the load — and there was nowhere to record it. There is now a height + reps type: height goes in centimetres and shows up in your records. 28 exercises use it today.

The catalog also gained a Power category — 93 exercises: box jumps, depth jumps, medicine-ball throws, snatch-style movements. With clips and icons, like the rest of the catalog.

🔐 Sign-in — what changed and why

Sign in with VK ID and a refreshed sign-in screen arrived in 2.7. At the same time we closed sign-in via Apple and Telegram.

The law requires it: Russian law (Federal Law 149-FZ, art. 8 §10) allows authorising users in Russia only through a Russian phone number, the state ESIA or EBS systems, or a Russian information system. Apple ID and Telegram don't qualify. Three methods remain:

  • Email and password
  • VK ID
  • Yandex ID

If you used Apple or Telegram, your account is still there. The app will offer to add an email and password, or link VK ID or Yandex ID — workouts, stats, and your subscription stay untouched. And if you can no longer get in, write to support@spodi.ru and we'll restore access by hand; subscribers go to the front of the queue.

👤 Profile (2.9.1)

The profile screen was reworked: icon rows instead of a wall of headings, and a wheel picker for body weight.

Update on the App Store.
